Early Adoption Rewards Program

Early Adoption Reward (EAR) gift cards will be awarded on the basis of a 90% early adoption submission rate at the departments and college levels. This program is funded by the cost savings realized from the elimination of express freight expenses caused by late orders and enabling the Bookstore to get to market early to procure used textbooks from a limited national supply.

  • The adoption deadline used is the adoption deadline set by the Provost in consultation with the Bookstore and will serve as the official UniversityAdoption Deadline (“UAD”).
  • All classes as published in the first edition of the University class schedule will be subject to the 90% timely adoption calculation. In the event that the schedule is not published by the UAD, the department must provide a schedule to the Bookstore.
  • No text required courses that are subsequently changed to a book order will negatively affect a department’s on-time percentage.
  • All counts are finalized within 48 hours after thedue date. The Bookstore will inform you when your department has reached the 90% goal.
  • To fulfill the 90% goal, the Bookstore needs information for 90% of the sections offered in theinitial schedule. This information can be any of thefollowing: a textbook order (including ebooks orclickers), a reader order, no text required order, or non-book materials.
  • In accordance with CSU Policy, EAR gift cards mayonly be used for purchases of merchandise and/orservices supporting the mission of SFSU.

  • Best Practices of Departments who have timely textbook orders:
  • Inform us that you are trying to reach the 90% on time goal, prior to the due date. We will help you get there by providing status updates.
  • Send us the class schedule for your department prior to the due date.
  • Let us know any courses that don't use textbooks, or use a source other than the SFSU Bookstore.
  • Ask us to provide you a list of classes and required textbooks for your department for a previous term. Use this as a guide to make textbook decisions for the new term.
